Empowering rural women is a crucial step towards achieving sustainable development. Rural women are vital in transformational, economic, environmental, and social changes required for sustainable development. However, they face many challenges, including limited access to credit, health care, and education, aggravated by the global food and economic crises and climate change. Empowering rural women is vital to the well-being of individuals, families, and rural communities and overall economic productivity, considering women's overwhelming presence in the agricultural workforce worldwide.
Rural women are involved in many facets of their lives, including improved food and nutrition security and better rural livelihoods. Training equips them with skills to pursue new livelihoods and adapt technology to their needs.
Empowering rural women can be achieved through safe spaces, skills development, involvement in self-income-generating activities, networking, and access to healthcare. Social groups encourage women to have open discussions and talk about the issues that they are facing. Business empowerment can also help rural women become self-sufficient. Empowering and mainstreaming rural women's workforce in agriculture can bring a paradigm shift towards economic growth. It will enhance food and nutrition security and alleviate food scarcity.
